Founder & Lead Instructor – Gentleway Systems LLC & Gentleway Pro
Clifford Cartagena is a Registered Nurse with over 22 years of clinical experience across psychiatric nursing, behavioral health, medical-surgical, geriatric care, hospice, and emergency settings.
He is the founder of Gentleway Systems LLC, a training platform focused on workplace violence prevention, crisis intervention, and self-defense strategies for healthcare and frontline professionals. As co-founder of the Arizona Care Horizon Institute (ACHI), Clifford is also an ADHS-Authorized Instructor for Memory Care Services Training, where he helps caregivers and healthcare staff deliver safer, person-centered dementia care.
Clifford’s approach to training blends:
Real-world clinical expertise from hospitals, psychiatric units, and memory care facilities
Evidence-based strategies aligned with OSHA, ADHS, and national safety standards
Martial arts principles (Judo Black Belt, Kungkado Freestyle 4th Degree) adapted into safe, trauma-informed intervention skills
In addition to his nursing background, Clifford is a Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor with the American Heart Association, certified in CPI, MANDT, and Handle With Care, and currently completing his Master of Science in Nursing – Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) specialization at Walden University.
His mission is to empower healthcare workers, caregivers, and organizations with the skills, confidence, and tools to prevent harm, de-escalate crises, and protect both staff and patients.
When not teaching, Clifford enjoys hiking in Phoenix with his wife Marlyn (“Mars”), exploring food adventures, and spending time with his children and family.
